2009 Study Abroad @ TransWorld

Proven to be rewarding experiences once-in-a-lifetime for Japanese students from Koyamadai Foundation, The Center for International Affairs (CIA) of Transworld Institute of Technology (TIT) has customized a one-week study abroad program since 2007 with joint efforts of faculty and staff members from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages, Department of Environmental Resources Management, Department of Early Childhood Education, Department of Styling and Cosmetology, and Department of Product Design. Fifteen Student Ambassadors with bilingual communication skills from different Departments were selected and trained especially for this event.

Ten Japanese students are from prestigious institutions, such as Waseda University, Meiji University, and Yokohama National University. They gained a better understanding of student life in Taiwan while appreciating Taiwanese culture and customs by attending classes, for instance, ceramic doll design, body painting, ecotourism education, interaction with nursery schoolchildren, cultural diversity, just to name a few. Apart from these, while being escorted to Huwei Sugar Factory and Gukeng Coffee Factory, they were impressed by the local booming industry. In their leisure time, they also visited the night market, savored lots of exotic snacks, and drank pearl milk (bubble) tea. It is particularly noteworthy that they were accommodated in the five-star Campus Hotel served by our Tourism and Hospitality students!

According to the leader of Student Ambassadors, Yuzu feels delighted to get his meaning across in Japanese, noting that he has been learning Japanese for a while but seems not to have a chance to use it naturalistically. The deputy leader, Jos, enjoys working in a team, valuing the spirit to meet her duties. Two of our international students at TIT, namely Viriya (Indonesian) and Sze Ming (Malaysian), recount how they got along with their Japanese friends and how considerate and polite they were. Emphasizing the importance of embracing a World View in perspective, Terry is grateful to have this opportunity to learn from the humble nature of Japanese people. It is agreed that both Koyamadai students and TIT ambassadors had a great time learning from one another.
